Smart cities aren’t just a dream of the future anymore

Whether it’s across town or across the country, you have plenty of options. Planes, trains and cars are just a few of them. All of these modes (方式) of transportation will soon be improved with the introduction of 5G and smart technology.
Finland’s “robot buses” are an excellent example. Telecom company Nokia has installed (安装) 5G transmitters (传送器) in 15 lampposts (灯柱) along a 1-kilometer route from the company’s head office to a nearby train station. These transmitters control and direct buses, making them fully autonomous, according to Raconteur Media.
In fact, 5G roads have been in development for some time. These roads are lined with 5G transmitters, cameras and other high-tech infrastructure They’re expected to provide many services. For example, the roads can tell electric car drivers the location of the nearest charging point. For children who get bored on long car rides, the roads can transmit movies and TV shows to screens in their parents’ cars.
In addition, being able to monitor and adjust traffic flows could mean the end of traffic jams. “Transport bodies will be able to manage a road network in real time, controlling traffic lights, traffic flow and congestion (拥堵) through automated (自动化的) machine-learning and artificial intelligence programs,” Guy Matthews, director of emerging  technology at CGI UK, a tech consultancy company, told Raconteur Media.
Public transportation is expected to benefit greatly from smart tech. In many Chinese cities, subway riders are more likely to swipe (扫) their phones at the turnstiles (旋转闸门) than they are to use transport cards. A phone app linked to your Alipay account is all you need to take the subway wherever you need to go.
In Seoul, South Korea, a smart station management system has been installed in one of the city’s subway stations. This system has many advanced features, including a 3D map, Internet of Things sensors (传感器) and an advanced CCTV (闭路电视) system to make the station safer and more efficient, according to Arirang News.
And of course, there are the much-awaited driverless cars. These cars will depend on the speed and stability of 5G to operate smoothly and safely. However, we still have some time until we see them on our roads.

Dangers of driverless cars
While many people are waiting for the driveless cars, many others have raised concerns about the safety and job security.
Between 2014 and 2018, there were 88 accidents involving self-driving cars in California, US, according to Business Insider. However, even a small possibility of malfunction (故障) will probably be enough to convince most people to stick with driving their own cars.
If these trucks go driverless, about 300,000 truckers can expect to lose their jobs, according to the Wall Street Journal.
