Susan’s face became red with embarrassment and annoyance. Tears rolling down her cheeks, she loudly argued that she returned it almost the moment she discovered the truth. Jason looked at the child, seemingly touched. Putting his hand in his pocket, he drew out a few coins and handed them to her. “No, sir. I thank you,” sobbed Susan, “I do not want to be paid for doing right. I only wish you would not think me dishonest.” After hearing this, Jason said sorry to her, ashamed. Susan returned home with a lightened heart. Never would she forget her mother’s Golden rule in her life.
